Arctic Light
A epic journey - across Canada’s Yukon and Northwest Territories to the banks of the Arctic Ocean, a wetplate collodion photographic adventure capturing the midnight sun a journey from Carcross, YT to Tuktoyaktuk, NWT.
When speaking of travel and wet-collodion practice there are many hurdles to overcome. The challenge of making these images and all the daunting physical and psychological challenges of the open road are forever bound to the imagery and make them what they are, a collodion testament of sorts. A testament to that moment in time — the challenge and struggle, the failures and the successes, all present themselves directly on the plate. For it was with human hands, water, sunlight, the environment in which they were made, all of that is captured in the collodion then - and now forever.
The Arctic cotton, in full bloom, swayed inaudibly as far as the eye could see across the tundra and swans glide in the hundreds of small ponds reflecting the big arctic sky – this perfect geological poetry broken only by one single undulating line, the Inuvik to Tuk Highway.
